OCS German Club
Earlier this year the OCS Deutschklub voted to make a charitable contribution to the German American Society of CNY by buying a brick for the Goethe-Schiller Monument in Syracuse. For those who aren’t familiar with the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller. They were some of the most influential German writers of the late 1700’s and early 1800’s. Some of their works include The Sorrows of Young Werther, Sturm und Drang, and Schiller wrote Willhelm Tell as well as many other works. The OCS German Club was also given a shout out in the German American Society Newsletter as the first group to buy a brick to help this worthy cause!
Secondly, OCS Senior Connor Maltby won a college scholarship, which is only available to senior German students. He will receive the scholarship on Monday, April 24th at the Syracuse Turners from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. There is no cost for German students, while others must pay $10. The fee includes a dinner of Bratwurst, Franks, Salad, Sauerkraut, Potato Salad, bread, and drinks. There will also be entertainment and traditional German dancing. For reservations call Sally Frenza at 315-345-6253 or e-mail her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Connor would love to have folks from his community there to support him at this great honor.
